Cassafaya Creating An Impact On The International Reggae Scene

Cassafaya

Reggae singer Cassafaya formerly known as Cassanova is steadily carving a niche for himself on the international reggae music scene.
The talented singer/songwriter who originally hails from Fletchers Land in Kingston began his career in the late 1990s. His breakthrough single was a song produced by veteran reggae singer Junior Reid titled Babylon A Get Weak.
“I’ve been in the business for a very long time paying my dues, I got my first hit in the late 90’s it was a song called Babylon A Get Weak that was Produced by Junior Reid, this was the first song that brought me real exposure as reggae artiste both locally and abroad.”
Despite the success he enjoyed with Babylon A Get Weak Cassafaya still did not achieve the heights of success that he desired. Not one to easily give up he continued to record for a number of producers including Isiah Laing, Donovan Germaine and Rootical Records.
“Although I had a popular song I still didn’t get the big break I wanted, but I didn’t allow that to get me down, I kept on recording for various producers. I also took time out to sharpen my skills as a songwriter and vocalist while doing this I also learned studio engineering and music production all this helped me to become a much better artiste, said Cassafya.”
Persistence and determination would eventually pay off for Cassafaya who did not lose sight of his dreams despite the many obstacles he encountered over the years. By 2006 he visited the US for series of shows as the opening act for popular dancehall artiste. That opportunity opened the doors for several other overseas engagements in places such as Japan, French Guiana, Surinam and Brazil.
“I will never forget when I travelled to the United States in 2006 I did several shows as the opening act on a tour and this lead to me doing shows in different countries all over the world because everywhere I perform the people love me. When I touch the stage I bring a lot of vibes and energy its always an unforgettable experience and that’s what has opened the doors for me abroad and has kept me going,” said Cassafya.
The year 2011 brought Cassafaya even greater success when he collaborated with the German singer Chris Toppa.
“In 2011 I met Chris Toppa, he came to Jamaica to visit me and we spent some time in the studio to write and record a couple songs together. One of those songs a song called Give Thanks did very well in Germany. Both of us performed on Sting that year and the following year I went to Germany and a tour over there with him, since then I have also done shows in France.”
Cassafya is currently in Jamaica working on a number of projects, he is also promoting a brand new single called Unchained My Heart on the Hompaya imprint. The single that was produced by Dutch Producer Sandra Smits is currently enjoying rotation on a number of local radio stations including IRIE FM.
“I’m here now working some new projects and I am also promoting my latest release it’s a Ska song called Unchain My Heart, so far it’s getting a lot of positive feedback, we are also getting ready to shoot a video for it,” said Cassafaya.
